Vårt lands viktigaste kulturhistoriska museum är en betydelsefull samhällelig aktör och partner vars innehåll och omfattning är till för alla och envar. Nu ger det största byggprojektet i Nationalmuseums över hundraåriga historia mer utrymme för den starkt förnyade museiverksamheten.
I samband med det arkitektoniskt ambitiösa projektet utvecklar vi vårt Nationalmuseum för de framtida behoven. Vi stärker den kulturella hållbarheten för att svara mot den ständigt ökande efterfrågan på kultur och göra det gemensamma kulturarvet ännu mer tillgängligt och användbart.

Nationalmuseums annex
byggs på museets nuvarande tomt, till stor del under jord där tillbyggnaden förenas med den historiska huvudbyggnaden, och öppnar 2027. Den nya restaurangpaviljongen kommer att öppna den grönskande gårdsparken för dagligt bruk. Lösningarna i fråga om form och material i det mångsidigt användbara annexet visar respekt för huvudbyggnaden och rymmer vårt kulturarv och en symbolik som pekar mot mytologin.

Annexets totala yta blir ca 4 145 m².
Publikutrymmena (inklusive utställnings- och mötesytor, restaurang) upptar ca 2 400 m², varav event- och utställningsytorna ca 1 100 m²
Den nya restaurangpaviljongen upptar ca 460 m² av ytan ovan jord.
Följaktligen ligger över 90 % av byggnadens yta under jord.
Den nuvarande museibyggnaden har en yta på 7 680 m2.
Restaurangen
Restaurangpaviljongen med glasväggar drivs året om och öppnar Nationalmuseums gårdspark för ett nytt ändamål. Parken som döljer sig bakom Nationalmuseets murar i hjärtat av Helsingfors är en unik plats för en restaurang som kan ha öppet även utanför museets öppettider.
Köket som byggs under jord ska serva alla museets behov, såväl kaféet och restaurangen för museets besökare som tillhandahålla servering vid möten och sammanträden och catering för stora evenemang och fester. Under sommaren öppnas restaurangens terrass mot parken och utformas efter olika teman och evenemang.
Upphandlingen av restauratör äger rum under projektets gång, troligtvis under loppet av 2024.
Museibutiken
Nationalmuseets museibutik får nya lokaler från huvudbyggnaden. Den andra butik kommer dock också att implementeras i den annexen, där du kan köpa vackra och praktiska föremål och böcker åt dig själv och som en gåva.
Nationalmuseets annex utförs av Finlands nationalmuseum, Museiverket, Senatfastigheter och JKMM Arkitekter.
Museiverkets kommunikationsavdelning svarar för kommunikationen runt annexprojektet.

The foremost museum of cultural history in our country is a major player in society with contents and framework intended for everybody and anybody. Now, the single biggest construction project in the 100-plus-year history of the National Museum of Finland will create added space to the strongly renewed museum activities.
This architectonically ambitious project will develop our National Museum of Finland to match future needs – to strengthen cultural sustainability, to meet the constantly increasing demand for culture, and to make our shared cultural heritage even more accessible for use.

The overall surface area of the annex is ca. 4,145 m2.
Most of the annex, 90%, will be located underground.
The price of the annex is 55 M € .
Effects on employment is 825 person-years .
The National Museum’s annex
will be built mainly underground on the existing museum plot adjacent to the historic main building, and will be open in 2027. The new restaurant pavilion will open the green courtyard park for daily use. The form and material solutions of the adaptable annex will be brimming with symbolism that refers to our cultural heritage and to our mythology too as an homage to the main building.
What will there be in the annex?
Adaptable facilities for major exhibitions, congresses, and various events.
TOTAL
The overall surface of the annex will be ca. 4,145 m². Approximately 2,400 m² of it will be public spaces such as the exhibition and meeting facilities and the restaurant, including ca. 1,100m² for event and exhibition spaces. The above-ground section of the new restaurant pavilion will cover around 460 m². In other terms, over 90 % of the surface area of the building will be located underground. The surface area of the current museum building is 7,680 m2.
The Restaurant
The glass-walled restaurant pavilion will provide year-round service and open the National Museum courtyard park to a new kind of use. The park behind the walls of the National Museum in the heart of Helsinki is a unique location for a restaurant that can cater even beyond the opening hours of the museum.
The kitchen spaces to be built underground will serve the needs of the entire museum site as regards café and restaurant activities aimed at the public, day-by-day conference catering, major events, and parties. In the summertime, the terrace section of the restaurant that opens out into the park can be adapted for various themes and events.
A call for tenders for the restaurateur of the National Museum launched in the course of the project will probably take place in 2024.
The Museum Shop
The Museum Shop of the National Museum will receive new premises from the main building. However, a new point will also be implemented in the new part for the Shop, where you can buy beautiful and practical objects and books for yourself and as a gift.
The National Museum annex will be executed by The National Museum of Finland, Finnish Heritage Agency, Senate Properties and JKMM Architects.
The communication services of the Finnish Heritage Agency will be in charge of communication on the National Museum annex project.
